The best way to apply Oil Paint to your canvas is to use a brush and a small amount of oil. You don’t need to worry about the proportions as long as there is more than enough amount of water added so that your mixture becomes smooth without lumps. This is white, though, so you wouldn’t be able to see the image you were covering that well. I wonder what’s the difference between gesso and modeling paste, as both of them has the same ingredients. And it wasn't so gritty as to chew up the tips of my markers. The sharpie marker really stood out, as well as the Fude Ball pen. The pan pastel chalk really did a LOT better over the gesso, chalk needs something to cling to.
